My Holiday in Arizona - The Grand Canyon: Part Two

Well it seems I didn't get too far on the trail...I remembered I didn't have any water with me, and that is so very important in this climate...so many people have died from heat exhaustion and lack of water...sometimes only metres from their vehicles. I decided it best to leave that hike for another day...

Some people were doing the trail though.

I hope they were well prepared and had supplies with them.

The signs gave plenty of information and warnings.

Would have been fun to do it with the Mules...sadly we didn't get to see them.

Every view was different, even if similar...

Interesting fairy/feathery type flowers.

The river

The sun is starting to come down and the richness of the reds shows more.

Different colours in the rocks.

Yeah a tree for me to climb!

Hello!

Watching the changes as the sun sets.

Sheila and Marti waiting for the sunset...Marti checks my hat is on okay.

The sun setting...the rocks get richer in colour.

The sun sets over the Grand Canyon and our day is over.

I was so exhausted I only just managed to get my shoes off before falling asleep!

My Holiday in Arizona - The Grand Canyon: Part One

Well Tuesday dawned bright and beautiful and we headed off to The Grand Canyon stopping at a couple of roadside Navajo Indian stalls and at the Cameron Trading Post...where I got the coolest of things...but these are to be shown later!

Here we are outside the shop.

There were these western saddles...that Helen and I rode.... that is until Mum told us they were handbags!  Whoops!

Ye ha, cowboy!

After a rather long shop - boy Aunty Heidi and Aunty Sheila can certainly shop - we finally made it to The Grand Canyon.

Our first stop was Desert View.

This looked interesting and strangely out of place really.

Old, but not old, inspired by...

The East View Watchtower.

Lots and lots of photos of the Canyon - which really don't capture the sheer majesty and vastness of it.

Heidi looks like she has her leg in the air...but I think it was balanced on a rock.

Don't fall off!

Enjoying the amazing view and power of the Canyon

It really does have to be seen to be believed.

The four Sashakateers...  Mum, Heidi, Marti & Sheila

Information panels telling you about the area you are currently in and other interesting information.

We went to see the train....

This was the one that used to be in service.

What a shame I didn't have my engine driver's outfit with me!

I wanted to get on it, but it said 'Please Keep Off'

I thought it best to obey as there was a US Marshall nearby...

Can you tell I like trains?

I could stand on this though.

It was very hot in the sun...

Meeting the US Marshall

He was dressed in Western Clothing which is unusual for a US Marshall, but very fitting for the area.

We went into one of the original lodges.  There were several heads on the walls!

We were to go in here...but first we wanted to take in some more views.

Me and Marti

Looks like we need to go and have a look in here.

Can you see me?

Yes here I am on the wooden wheel.

Yes more views of the canyon.

Sparse vegetation

In case you have a tummy ache, tea to cure all ailments!

Hmm...this looks like a decent trunk!  I could definitely get all my clothes in here!

A ranger's boots and hat/

Learning how to card wool and weave.

Mum (Lorraine), my loyal carriage!

A very interesting talk on Condors was being given over here...we caught the tail end of it.

Cheeky!

I wanted to do this, but it seems I was the only taker in this heat!

Learning about some of the local people...

His cabin.

An old projector

Yikes!

A local bird...

Ah, now this looks interesting...

I think I will go on this walk...

Surely it can't be too far?

Off I go.....

....to be continued...
